The Civil War was immensely costly in lives and in dollars.

More Americans died in the Civil War than in all of America's wars combined. Approximately 618,000 men perished in four years of fighting........an average of 423 deaths for each day of the war.
Other statistics of fatalities add to the tragedy. Over 400,000 Civil War soldiers died of sickness and disease. Mostly dysentery and diarrhea.





The Civil War ended with Rober E. Lee's surrender to Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865.

Some say this war even continues today.
